3 School Mews is a two-bedroom town house in the refurbished Old School House in Wookey Hole, a couple of miles from Wells. The place has a mix of old character and modern comforts, and is offered for short breaks, long weekends or longer stays as Wookey House. It's a good base for exploring Somerset, whether you're walking or cycling on the many paths and open access land, or trying activities like horse riding, golf, clay pigeon shooting, climbing and caving. The area is also known internationally for birdwatching. You can walk from the door onto the Mendips for big views, head down to Wells, or take day trips to wildlife areas along the coast and across the Somerset levels and moors. There are also old market towns with plenty of history and unusual details.

We started in the caves, which had loads of history and were everyone's favourite. The guides were great and made it fun. Later we walked through the Dinosaur Park, where the two four-year-old boys were in heaven. After lunch, we watched the paper making and had a go on the penny slot machines. There was so much to see and do on our day out with my wife, daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren. A great day.

The location couldn't be better, and the staff were helpful with good service. The Wi-Fi was excellent. The rooms are a little dated and could use new beds, as they weren't the most comfortable, though they were all right. It was a good stay and I'd probably come back if I visit the area.

We were there for about four hours. The cave is impressive and worth seeing. Crazy golf gets crowded, so expect a wait. The penny arcade and mirror maze were okay, but not especially exciting.
