November 2025 The chef did a fantastic job, and the breakfast we had later in Goring on the sea front helped make up for the ruined night. The staff were fantastically friendly on arrival, and I can’t fault them. My wife has mobility issues, so I’d chosen Findon manor after searching for somewhere nearby that seemed suitable. The trouble started from 2.00 onwards. We had no heating or hot water because the boiler was broken. The relaxed pre-dinner bar turned out to be where we’d have our meal; there was nobody else eating at the hotel, and I understand they didn’t want to put us in an empty room with tables. While we ate, a dog howled at the bar, and there was foul language. The decor was awful and tired, with no atmosphere. The website looks nothing like the real place. Afterwards I emailed the hotel and got a reply from the owner. Even after looking at CCTV, he couldn’t see a problem with our stay. He asked me to call, but from his tone and reply I could tell he wasn’t going to help. He told me to act like an adult and said he wouldn’t offer a sensible refund, despite our having spent nearly £200. I declined his offer of a 25% refund and asked him to give it to a charity. I think the hotel itself could be lovely, but our stay was a nightmare.

Breakfast was lovely, and the man serving was polite and kept everything topped up. But we were all squeezed into a side room that wasn’t large enough for our party. The stay was disappointing apart from the breakfast food, and it wasn’t cheap. We booked the whole hotel for our wedding night in December so close family and friends could stay together and have breakfast the next morning. The hotel asked for a detailed spreadsheet of room assignments and guest contact details, saying they’d contact guests to take deposits. That never happened, and communication beforehand was poor. We returned to rooms with the windows wide open, so they were freezing and everyone slept very uncomfortably. It was especially concerning for my 86 year old grandad. I don’t know whether there was heating, but it certainly wasn’t on. The bathroom toiletries were nice, though the showers only dribbled water. The woman at the desk, who seemed to be in charge, was rude, grumpy, and cold to everyone. She repeatedly asked people to pay when they already had, because the payments hadn’t been recorded. She made no effort to smile, and I’m not sure she spoke to us once. Most upsetting was that a pair of designer sunglasses and my mum’s ring went missing. Mum’s ring belonged to her late mother. It has no real monetary value, but it’s irreplaceable, and she’d accidentally left it in the bathroom. When she asked the hotel, the response was an uninterested “haven’t found anything, we’ll let you know.” It was in a very obvious place, so it will have been found. Clearly someone decided to keep it, which is really upsetting. We got the same nonchalant response about the sunglasses and have heard nothing since. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The rooms all had their own character, and they suited the old building and its surroundings really well. We booked the whole place, including both event rooms, for my grandmother-in-law’s 80th birthday weekend. The party meal and breakfasts were incredible, and the staff were friendly and accommodating throughout. Nothing to fault in the stay or service. We’ll be back for a quiet break.

My family booked this as a treat while I was in the area for my 94-year-old uncle’s funeral. After a four-hour drive from Leicestershire, my cousin and I were glad of a drink at the bar when I arrived at 9:30 pm. I was greeted warmly, and my room was spotless, with a huge four-poster bed and a spacious, well-equipped bathroom. I slept really well. Breakfast in the lovely dining room was delicious. Would I return? In a heartbeat 💓

Dinner was excellent, the service was great, and breakfast was very good too. We had a clean, comfortable double room; it could use a little freshening up, though it is an old traditional English building. The hotel was very busy with two post-funeral events when we arrived, but the staff still made sure we had a parking space and gave us a warm welcome. Very good value compared with the chain hotels. We’d highly recommend Findon Manor.
