We stayed for two nights and found the location good, with an adequate room. The plumbing was very noisy: we could hear the cistern filling in the room next door. The pub food was good. The only cooked breakfast option was a full English, and it was tasty, with gluten-free sausages and toast.

We got helpful tips about our stay from the woman who checked us in, over a drink. She told us things we wouldn't otherwise have known. It's a great place, reasonably priced, and just a short walk from York's main attractions. I'd definitely stay again.

My husband and I felt so uncomfortable that we booked a room at the local DoubleTree and left after ten minutes. The rooms looked spacious, clean and modern online, but ours was tiny, filthy and smelled musty and mouldy. At £110 a night, that run-down, disgusting cupboard of a room is atrocious. Don't waste your money. I didn't ask for a refund and didn't expect one. I left because the place was so awful.

The location isn't bad. That's the only positive I can give this place. The four-poster bed frame was dusty, the bathroom blind was filthy, and there were used earplugs and a plaster under the bedside table. Stains covered the furniture, and we couldn't use the shower properly because it was so loosely attached to the wall. When we arrived, a young lad seemed to be running the place on his own. He wasn't very professional and didn't seem concerned about making sure we were happy. If you want a clean, comfortable stay in York, avoid it.
