Citadel Narikala Hotel

I stayed in the “express” hotel next to the main building, right in the heart of the city. My room had an amazing city view, and the breakfast buffet was tasty with a good variety. It was good value for money, and I’d stay again. The room was spacious and clean, with a comfortable bed, fridge, kettle, and microwave. They also provided bottled water for free. Just be aware that getting there means tackling stairs and a steep uphill slope, which could be difficult with mobility issues or heavy luggage.

The noise on New Year’s Eve was awful. The breakfast hall was set up for their own celebration, and the loud music and shouting went on until around 5-6 a.m. They had also booked the room next to ours, where people talked and shouted all night. With such poor sound insulation, reserving the neighboring room during an event like that was unacceptable. We had an early flight and were exhausted. The hotel’s location was also terrible. It’s not central, and you have to climb very steep hills, the kind that even cars struggle to get up. In the room, the beds were two separate ones pushed together, which was extremely uncomfortable. The heating didn’t warm it up, even set to 30°C. There was a pleasant smell when we first entered, but after about two hours a terrible toilet or sewage odor appeared. It was unbearable. The breakfast they call “varied” definitely wasn’t. We’ve stayed at lots of apartments and hotels with breakfast included, and this was probably the worst. We were not satisfied at all. Choose to stay only if you know about these problems.

The views are stunning, the bed was great, and the rooms were comfortable. The service was excellent, especially Givi, who was very helpful during our stay. Getting to the entrance involves quite a climb, and parking nearby is practically impossible because the slope is so steep. We also had trouble with the air conditioning, and the breakfast could be better. Great service and views, but the stay came with some challenges.

The bathroom made the stay uncomfortable. There’s no window, exhaust fan, or vent, so it and the room had a constant bad smell. Even taking a quick shower felt unpleasant. We thought about changing rooms, but friends staying elsewhere had the same issue, so we decided to put up with it. The AC wasn’t very effective either, and some nights I woke up sweating. The Wi-Fi was really bad too. The hotel is clean and beautifully designed, with a view better than I expected. The service was excellent and breakfast very good, but the ventilation and weak air conditioning made the room less comfortable than it could have been.
