I loved the peaceful, private feel at Seafront Studios, Bakau. It has more of a boutique atmosphere than the big resorts farther down the coast, and would suit couples or solo travellers looking for some quiet. The suites are roomy, bright, and well equipped, with a kitchenette that came in handy for making breakfast with fruit from Bakau market. From the balcony, you can watch the fishing boats and take in the Atlantic views, and the waves are lovely to wake up to. The Gambian sunsets are a real treat. The team were friendly and attentive, and happy to suggest somewhere for dinner or help arrange a taxi. You're right in Bakau, within walking distance of the Botanical Gardens, the Ridge, and seafront restaurants such as Calypso and Ngala Lodge. Seafront Studios, also called Seafront Suites, has a high-end feel while keeping its Gambian character. It's clean, safe, and has some of the best views in West Africa.

The staff are the main reason I'd come back. When we had a small problem on the first day, the manager sorted it out right away and was so understanding and apologetic. The pool lifeguard was helpful and relaxed, and the security team were excellent. Mo especially was a star, making sure we got back safely and going out of his way to help during the trip. The grounds are beautiful and kept clean, with a large, clean pool and easy beach access. Get up early and you may see monkeys from the monkey park wandering around the complex. It's lovely to see. The rooms are spacious and clean, but dated. The bathroom and kitchen could use updating, which would make a big difference. Even so, I'd definitely return. I hope they renovate soon, because the place could easily be five-star. I took more videos than photos, but it's truly breathtaking.

Check-in went smoothly, and the host was clear and quick to respond. The place matched its description: clean, comfortable, and well equipped. Shops, restaurants, and public transport were all easy to reach, which made the stay simple and enjoyable. I'd happily stay again and recommend it.

After a long trip, I arrived to find no one at the front desk. I waited 20 to 30 minutes, and the office was poorly lit. I had rented a two-bedroom apartment, but the manager didn't seem willing to help with anything. There were no comforters, and when I asked for some or for a fan, he said they couldn't provide them. The AC in one room barely cooled compared with the other, and the locker didn't work. Neither problem was addressed. I went out for a few hours the next day, and came back to an apartment that hadn't been cleaned. The kitchen had just one big, ugly-looking pot. When I asked for more, the manager said that was all they had. There was no dish soap or sponge either, so we had to buy those ourselves. I don't think I was treated fairly or warmly because my friends were local and I'm from the US, but not white.
