Adamastos

The hotel is nice and has the basics, though breakfast was very limited. We only found out after checking in that reception closes once guests have arrived. When we needed help or information, we weren't sure what to do until morning.

The quieter setting was a big part of why I enjoyed Adamastos. It’s just a short walk to the village, with tavernas, restaurants, a supermarket, pharmacy, and shops selling clothes and crafts. The old fort and church are there too. We found Balos beach about 10-15 minutes away on foot, and the caldera sunsets were only a five-minute walk behind the hotel. It was peaceful, with no crowds. The ancient ruins, Red beach, and water taxis to White and Black beaches are also around a 15-minute walk, though there are no pavements on the road, so take care. There’s a bus if you prefer, and a stop right outside for trips to Fira and further afield. Our week in July was lovely. Adamastos is a beautiful family-run hotel with a traditional Greek feel, and Irene was so friendly and helpful. The outside spaces and pool look stunning. The pool is a good size, refreshing, and has lovely views over the sea and countryside. We always found sun loungers and umbrellas free. My son and I liked having breakfast outside and enjoying the view. There was fresh watermelon, homemade Greek pastries, bread, ham, sausages, cheese, yogurt, tomatoes, and drinks. Plenty for a growing teenager. Our room was simple, clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a perfectly adequate bathroom. I liked the olive oil shower gel. It was cleaned daily and we got fresh towels. There was no tea or coffee setup, which didn't matter to me since I don't drink either. The fridge was handy for snacks and drinks, and our balcony looked over the vines with a sea view. I'd happily stay at Adamastos again if I return to Santorini. Thanks to Irene and her family for looking after us so well.

The setting around the hotel, between the rooms, was breathtaking, and everything inside was very clean. The owner was genuinely lovely and helpful, and breakfast was great. My partner and I actually preferred it to the five-star hotel we stayed at later. There are great restaurants and a large supermarket just a two-minute walk away. I'd definitely recommend it.

Akrotiri made for a peaceful base, away from the island's busiest spots, while still making it easy to get around and see the other parts. The family hotel is clean and well cared for, and the owners really look after their guests. It's not fancy, but it has what you need for a comfortable stay. The pool is sensibly sized for the rooms, the small terraces offer some privacy even though they face the inner square, and the air conditioning works well. Breakfast isn't very varied, but the buffet was more than enough for us. They offer discounted car and motorbike rentals, though we found better deals at a slightly higher price. A really nice stay.
