Hotel Kouris

The reception area was being used to store bikes and motorcycles, more like a garage or warehouse than a hotel entrance. The owner’s behavior was unacceptable too, and he was rude to us after we complained. The room photos showing a stone building and renovated rooms are fake. Inside, there were broken electrical fittings, like something from the 1980s. When I first checked the bathroom, the shelf under the mirror was dirty. Luckily I always carry disinfectant. The cleaning lady never came to clean the room or change the toilet bin bag. They apparently don't clean during a stay.

At 50 euros a night without breakfast, we decided to shorten our stay. The hotel could be brought back to a reasonable standard if the owners cared enough, but there were so many small problems I can't list them all. The worst issue was the pair of wall lights above the bed. Both looked ready to fall because the screws and plugs were set into holes that were too large. The mini fridge needed defrosting, and the bed was missing its top sheet. We found it under the towels and made the bed ourselves. From the street, the place once looked quite attractive, but overgrown trees now block the square from the balconies. There isn't an email address, despite the hotel having WiFi. We booked by phone, then on arrival the person on duty had to call someone to check whether we were expected. We were the only guests. One star for not killing us.

Its spot on Areopoli's central square is the main advantage. The rooms are very bare and there isn't much in the way of amenities, and I think the prices could be lower.

In Areopoli, this is one of the best value hotels, right on the city's main square.
