Athens Green Apart-hotel

Emilio and Kosmos were at the door to welcome us, and their kindness and help made a big difference. The four-bed garden room we booked was huge, with a dining table and a fully stocked kitchen. We felt safe, even though the hotel sits on a narrow street that can be tricky to reach, and our taxi rides to the sights we wanted to see took 10-15 minutes. Athens Green isn’t a chain hotel, and it’s not the most modern place, so some updating would help. But it was spacious, clean, safe and reasonably priced, which is what we wanted.

We found plenty of excellent food a 10-minute walk away in most directions, and Uber rides around town all cost under 10Euros. The location worked well for seeing Athens. Our room was large and very clean, and the two brothers who own the place were so friendly and helpful that they went out of their way to take care of everything we needed.

The owner communicated well until we discovered what seemed like an attempt to charge us 140 euros for a small studio instead of the two-room apartment we’d paid for. He said the apartments were the same, but they weren’t. The rooms were old, dark and dirty, and looked nothing like the photos online, which showed a bright place with a lovely garden and clean rooms. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There are lots of other places nearby for half the price, so save your money and look elsewhere.

Getting the key was a hassle. Nobody was there to meet us, and it had been left in the door behind a locked gate. I had to wait for another guest to let me in, since no one answered the phone or emails. The room was freezing, run-down and filthy, with things hanging off their hinges. It looked nothing like the pictures and felt more like a prison cell. This was false advertising, and easily the worst place I’ve ever seen. I was mortified.
