Athens Tiare Hotel

We weren’t staying at Athens Tiare Hotel, but the receptionist warmly let us know we could eat at the restaurant on the second or third floor. We went for dinner twice during our time in Athens, with a view over the Platia Omonias fountain. The portions were generous, the food tasty, and the staff very friendly. Good prices and the sight of the fountain lit up made both meals feel memorable and enjoyable.

The breakfast room was bright and well kept, though the food choices were only okay. It did the job, much like the tiny WC and shower, which worked but felt cramped. Our room was an acceptable size, but we’d booked Premium and there wasn’t much premium about it beyond being on the fifth floor out of six. The website said this room type had a view of Lykavitto hill in Exarchea, but we had no view at all. The hotel is in a so-so part of Omonoia Square and felt characterless, basically just somewhere to sleep. The price didn’t seem to match what tourists got for it. Maybe hospitality in Athens has become so expensive that hotels have to charge this much for so little value. It felt like the McDonald’s of hotels in Athens: it meets a basic need, but doesn’t reflect the charm of the city.

Our rooms were clean and roomy enough, and there’s a café by reception where you can get reasonably priced drinks from morning to evening. Breakfast came with our stay and had plenty of choices, enough that we weren’t hungry during the day. The nearby metro stop made it easy to explore the city. The staff were friendly and always ready to help with whatever we needed.

We had a pleasant stay in this clean hotel. The rooms were large, the beds comfortable, and the staff very professional, friendly, and helpful. Breakfast was good with lots to choose from, and they had everything we needed. It’s in a good location, offers fair value, and I’d definitely recommend it.
