Golden City Hotel

The neighborhood is the main drawback. It's a rough part of Athens, so stick to the busier streets, head straight to the metro, and don't follow a shorter Google Maps route through alleys. I'd avoid wandering at night and wouldn't recommend bringing kids. For the price, though, this is one of the best options. The hotel was clean and safe, with friendly staff, daily room cleaning, and fresh towels. Breakfast was nice, and the rooftop terrace had a good feel. There's also a hotel bar open until midnight and a restaurant until around 8. It's good value if you're after a cheap place near most attractions and are comfortable with the area.

The area didn't bother me, and I'd stay here again in Athens. My 7th floor room had a balcony, and the breakfast buffet was on the 8th floor, good value for the money. The bathroom and room floor could have been cleaner. I was also annoyed to miss breakfast on the first morning because they changed the time without telling me, though the receptionist/manager tried to make it up to me with a sandwich and coffee in the ground floor cafe.

The staff were kind and helpful, and I had a pleasant one-night stay in a one-bedroom room. It's about 1.5km from syntagma square. The newer hotel was clean and tidy, with a clean toilet, hairdryer, and a mirror with a light. There was also a safety box and a TV with satellite channels, which I didn't use. Breakfast was free, served on the 8th floor with a view. I'd stay again when I'm in Athens. Thank you, Emmanuel, for your help and service 😃

Service was good and memorable when staff were helpful. Emmanuel was extremely helpful at check-in, while his receptionist colleague seemed bothered when I asked for directions. Thanos in the restaurant was especially helpful, but his senior, Rania, could have used more common sense. The rooms were a little small and in average condition, though clean. The rooftop restaurant had a fantastic atmosphere when it was open. I wish they'd keep it open throughout the day.
