This green spot in central Athens has an old feel but a fresh energy. The neighborhood is full of taverns, coffee shops, and bars, and it's become very popular over the last few years. Nice for a stroll, dinner, or even just morning coffee.

I loved living there for five years in the early 2000's, on Parmenidou. It's an unpretentious working-class neighborhood with reasonable rents and easy access to central Athens by foot or bus. You get to know the butcher and baker, there are not-very-super markets nearby, and a terrific farmer's market comes around every week. Such a fun place to live!

In the evening, this square really comes alive and has a pleasant neighborhood feel. It's one of the main squares in Pangrati, with places to eat and have coffee, plus lots of small shops along the nearby streets.

If you're in Athens, make time for a drink or a meal in Varnava square. It's one of the city's liveliest squares, with lots of bars and restaurants. Close by are Michelin-awarded Spondi, Babaganoush, famous for its falafel, and Colibri, known for its delicious hamburger.
