Avaton Resort and Spa

We stayed at Avaton Suite over our anniversary in May/June 26. The location was good, with lots of nice restaurants nearby, and the employees responded quickly. Our room was beautiful, the balcony views were lovely, and the bed was very comfortable, so we slept well. Still, the stay was a letdown for the money, and I wouldn't call it five-star. Breakfast was dreadful. The selection was small, had to be ordered the night before, and had to be eaten in the room. It regularly arrived cold, with skimpy portions, like mini croissants and cocktail sausages instead of full-size items. More than once it came at the wrong time. The sausage and bacon were very greasy, and I suspect they were cooked in a dirty pan. One time I even found plastic in the food (see photo). The hotel restaurant apparently closes at 7pm, though after that breakfast we never tried it. The indoor spa bathroom facilities were often dirty, and seemed to be cleaned perhaps once a day. There was no shampoo or body wash there. Body wash in our room wasn't replenished either, so we ran out early and had to buy some. We didn't use the spa or sauna, but apparently you need to give 30 minutes' notice. The air conditioning was unreliable, though the dehumidifier and fan in the room were thankfully enough. On checkout morning the water had run out or been shut off without warning, so we couldn't use the bathroom or shower before our flight. That made for a very uncomfortable long journey. Our Avaton suite was right beside reception, with no privacy and constant chatter from guests and staff coming and going. The hotel was generally quiet otherwise. We had told them the anniversary was the reason for our trip, but no effort was made to acknowledge it. I know they weren't obligated to do anything, but it felt inattentive and short on hospitality for a place claiming five stars.
