La Maltese Estate Hotel

The advertised honeymoon suite was supposed to have a separate living area, and the photos we saw online before booking showed a much larger room. What we got was a standard room with a downstairs toilet and none of those living-area facilities. When we told the manager, he said it was one of their best rooms and nothing could be done. I’d hate to see what the others are like. Breakfast was advertised as being brought to us, but that didn’t happen either. The manager acted as if he were doing us a favor by arranging it for just one morning. The service was poor, and the online presentation felt misleading. Don’t stay here. Find somewhere that gives you what it says it will.

The location and beds were good, and the view is nice depending on which room you get. But this felt like two-star facilities at a four-star price. There’s no soap or shampoo shelf in the bathroom, no full-length mirror, and hot water isn’t guaranteed. Rooms are so minimal that it becomes inconvenient. Nobody is on the property from 9:30 am to 4 pm, so if the hot water or internet stops working, there isn’t much you can do.

The hotel website is a scam. You pick a room, arrive, and get a completely different one, worth less than what you paid for and missing the perks you booked. When we asked staff to change the room or fix the problem, they didn’t care at all.

The room overlooked a noisy street, and there wasn’t a sea view anywhere in the hotel. There’s a new resort being built nearby with impressive views, but its hot tubs are just cheap inflatable lazy spas, nothing like the luxury they advertise. We booked this place specifically for sea views and a hot tub, but got neither. The pool was freezing, tucked between buildings with no view, and the hot tub wasn’t switched on when we arrived. We followed up several times, and it only started warming up on our last day. Our shower was lukewarm too, and there was a dirty used towel in the room when we arrived. The advertising was completely misleading. When we complained, staff seemed barely interested in helping. They offered to move us to a room in the unfinished new hotel, but wanted a hefty extra fee and wouldn’t suggest a reasonable fix. It was a massive disappointment. Avoid this place if you expect it to match the ads.
