Hotel Katerina

In my experience, the staff showed no sincere, friendly attitude, and with the island so empty, I decided to leave immediately. I’d booked four nights but left after the first. I knew the rate was non-refundable, but the way they handled it was very disappointing. The hotel was almost empty, everything on the island was closed, and clearly they hadn’t lost another booking because I left early. Still, there was no interest, flexibility, or gesture from the staff. Nobody even asked why I was leaving or whether something was wrong. Refunding the unused government/tourist tax they’d charged for all four nights, or offering breakfast, would have shown some hospitality. Instead, nothing. When I asked for a wine opener, they said they didn’t have one and wouldn’t open my bottle at the bar either. For travelers, Ios is practically deserted at this time of year, around the end of September. Almost everything was closed, and buses ran just once an hour between the port/airport and the main beach, with no service to other villages. The property itself might be fine in high season, but that wasn’t my experience.

The room exceeded my expectations and had an amazing balcony. Hotel Katerina sits above Mylopotas Beach, roughly halfway between Hora and the beach/Far Out. Katerina, whose parents now own the family run hotel named after her, was friendly and fun to chat with. Her English was perfect, and her dad went out of his way to help when I missed my scheduled ferry. I’d definitely stay again.

The family running the hotel were kind, helpful, and always ready to assist. Their service felt genuinely welcoming from the moment we arrived. Everything was incredibly clean and well cared for, and the location comes with beautiful views all around. We can’t wait to return!

We first stayed at Hotel Katerina when we visited Ios two years ago. We loved the island so much that, when planning our return, we didn’t consider staying anywhere else. The rooms have fabulous views and everything you need, but it’s the family that makes the stay special. They treat you like family, not just a guest. Thanks for another wonderful visit. The location is ideal between Chora and the beach, and the local bus runs past every 20 minutes.
