Marcos Rooms

We spent two nights in one of the rooftop rooms. There’s a roomy deck with a lovely view from the roof, just right for unwinding while waiting for sunset 😎. Shops and restaurants are nearby, and the owner was nice enough to offer us coffee and biscuits. The room was spotless.

Even the rats seemed to want out. I left my case in the room while we sat at a café around the corner trying to find somewhere else, and for a moment we even considered sleeping in a bin. When we came back for the case, we made a run for it. The owner asking for cash felt strange too, and something just didn’t seem right. On arrival we were met by a man in shoes with a hole in one toe, the sort even a homeless person might refuse. My wife was scared to go in, but followed me through the door, where the smell was awful. She had her head in her handbag trying not to throw up and begged me to leave. Not even a donkey would stay here. Anyway, it’s OK, don’t let this put you off 😬. Already looking forward to my next stay.

The room had ants in the fridge and was dirty, the bed felt close to breaking, and there was no hot water. We tried to reach booking.com to shorten our stay to one night. At 11 pm, the hostess knocked and yelled at us. You can find way better places for about the same price.

The terrace has two levels, and the upper one is a lovely spot to watch the sunset away from the crowds. Our rooms were clean and had air conditioning. Our flight delay caused a big mix-up, but the owners were flexible and accommodating. They went out of their way to get us to the right place and were available at odd hours when we arrived. We really enjoyed the hospitality of this wonderful, authentic Greek family and our stay at Marcos Rooms.
