We had a lovely 10-day September holiday at Proimos maisonettes with our two-year-old son, and Crete has definitely won us over. The place feels authentic rather than modern, but it’s well maintained, surrounded by greenery, and has lovely staff. There’s art and sculpture inside and out, which makes sense given Mr. Proimos is an Art History professor and art critic. It was a pleasure to see that distinctive touch. The location at the far end of Platanias worked well for us. The beach is a minute away through the back doors, buses in both directions stop practically by the entrance, and restaurants are within walking distance. Kanelis, the first taverna on the right, was unique, amazing and tasty, and has live music on Wednesdays and Sundays. EV tours car rental is two minutes to the left, and Lidl is about five minutes to the right toward Gerani. If you stay in, the pool is a nice place to relax and is cleaned each morning. My son and I have atopic dermatitis and, as sensitive as we are, we had no problems using it. Our one-bedroom family maisonette had two lovely balconies, one off the first floor and another from the upstairs bedroom. The kitchen had what we needed for simple summer meals: utensils, a small fridge with freezer drawer, microwave, filter coffee machine, small stovetop and oven. We also got wine and water as a welcome gift from Mr. Proimos. There were lots of toys and other things for children to do, including pool entertainment. The bed was narrower than ours at home, about 140×200cm compared with 160×200cm, so my husband and I couldn’t all sleep together as we do at home. I took the single bed instead, which was actually nice since I haven’t slept alone since our son was born. 😄 We paid for breakfast and were happy with it. You choose one of eight dishes, with a bread basket and butter, freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee or tea, then strawberry and apricot jam and honey to spread on the bread. Chef Costa makes and serves it. He knows so much, and it was lovely chatting with him about all sorts of topics. A great holiday, and we’d love to visit again and explore more of the island. Cheers 🥂
