Castellum Suites Hotel

Rhodes is beautiful, and we were surprised by how close everything felt when we spent a few days walking around. We came for our honeymoon and have had a lovely time. The staff are all kind and helpful, with Voula being especially sweet. She also makes the best drinks!

The food was excellent and varied during our three meals a day, and local drinks at the bar were included. Everyone we dealt with, from reception and the restaurant to the bartenders and maids, was welcoming and helpful. The shower was clean with no mold, and the large refillable bottles of soap, shampoo and shower gel worked well without drying out my skin. We also had a hairdryer and toilet paper, two towels per person plus a floor towel, a safe that needed a key from reception, and excellent wifi. There was a kettle with tea, coffee, sugar and cardboard cups. Two half-litre bottles of water were provided only on arrival, not on the following days. Cleaning and towel changes happened daily. The room itself was disappointing for cleanliness, especially the walls and curtains. We arrived early and were checked in straight away since rooms were available. I'd requested two beds when booking, and we got them, but they were pushed together under one sheet. The maid brought extra sheets and a blanket when I asked, and two maids came to sort it within about five minutes. We then noticed one bed had a missing leg; a repairman fixed it quickly, but tracked dirt in on his outdoor shoes. There was also a switch and socket under the pillow, which surprised us, and the bed couldn't be moved. The hardest part was sharing the hotel with a group of high school students. The boys were extremely loud and disruptive at night, even on different floors from us, and only settled down in the morning.

The location puts you right among the old town, new town and harbour. The rooms are lovely and roomy, the food is good with lots of choices, and the staff really go out of their way for guests. I'd absolutely recommend it.

The food at the all-inclusive buffet was varied and good, though the restaurant got crowded at certain times. Reception staff were helpful, and the hotel itself was clean with a pleasant lobby. We also enjoyed the evening entertainment, especially the talented local dancers and musicians. Being fairly close to the spectacular Old town was a big plus, although getting around on foot is needed. The pool area was cramped and disappointing. It had couches but no sunbeds, so we couldn't properly sunbathe there. We skipped it and walked about 1.5 miles each day to Ellie beach, where we paid for sunbeds. Drinks were a letdown. The all-inclusive service stopped at 10:30 pm, and the drinks on offer were poor quality. Beer came only in half-pints, the spirits were hard to taste, and when I ordered gin once I honestly couldn't tell what I'd been served. The pina colada was about 90% pineapple juice. The man behind the bar was abrupt, unfriendly and unhelpful, showed no sense of customer service, and didn't speak to us while serving. One restaurant staff member also seemed very unapproachable and looked at guests with clear scorn and derision.
