Island City Boutique Hotel

The car rental was straightforward: the hotel is run by a travel agency, and we just showed a US driver's license and paid €30, cash or card. Our car was waiting outside the next morning. Returning it was easy too; we parked out front and handed the keys to the desk clerk, who sorted it out. One tip if you're driving counterclockwise around the island: the BP station before the coastal road charged €1 more per liter than other places we found. About the noise complaints, the Blue Lagoon bar across the street is closed for winter at the moment. This was Dec 27, 2025. We liked our three-night stay, but needed to add a night because of the winter ferry timetable. Walk-ins aren't accepted, and most booking sites required at least three nights unless we paid a much higher price for just one. The front desk clerk wouldn't help me look for a room. She was the only unhelpful person we dealt with, and seemed not to care, maybe even to enjoy my distress. We had to book elsewhere for that last night. It was disappointing to have a rude clerk spoil an otherwise wonderful stay, so I took off one star for the poor service.

The staff were friendly, breakfast was free and excellent, and the price felt reasonable. We were there over Christmas, though, when it was off-season and not much was happening. Our third-floor room had a balcony overlooking the harbor, with especially lovely views at night. A bar across the street can make the area very loud, but it was mostly closed during the holidays.

The location was great for getting to the old town, shops, restaurants, and the harbor where you can book boat tours. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, the hotel itself very nice, and the staff were friendly. But the music from across the street blasted from 10 p.m. until 2:20 a.m. every night except Sunday. That was a deal breaker for me.

We slept well for all five nights, thanks to good soundproofing, even with a bar and grocery store right across the street. The pillow was a little too big for my liking. The hotel is an easy walk from both the main beach and the old town. One thing to know: they charged us a city tax of €10 per night that hadn't been mentioned beforehand.
