Ducato Wine Village

Christina was quick to respond and very helpful whenever we had a question or request. Megalochori itself is a picturesque, peaceful village, with several good restaurants within walking distance. The hotel’s houses and rooms are spread around the village. Our villa had two traditional cave houses linked by a small, partly covered pool, plus an outdoor sitting area and a lovely rooftop terrace. The layout felt spacious, and my family and I liked having a separate bathroom, living room, and bedroom in each house for comfort and privacy. The design was authentic and unique, though each house has its own style and layout, so choose carefully. This suits people who value character and authenticity over uniform, modern comfort. Our villa was comfortable, but it’s a renovated traditional home, not a new build. A couple of small things: one house had a stone floor that was uncomfortable to walk on, though slippers were provided, and the pool wasn’t heated. It was too cold to use in early October, but would probably be ideal in summer.

The rooms weren’t arranged properly by the manager, and we waited around for about 30 minutes before anyone came to take us to them. One of the rooms still wasn’t ready. Some rooms look nice, but the property didn’t feel safe, with rocks and unlocked doors in odd places, and it’s not suitable for kids. One of the cleaners stole my camera, worth £800!!! The manager was rude and didn’t help at all. Keep valuables with you if you stay here, though honestly I wouldn’t say the risk is worth it. Horrible experience!

The villa was nothing like the listing, in our opinion. There were cockroaches, mosquitoes, mold, dusty surfaces, spider webs, and bathroom fixtures and toilets that leaked. We couldn’t use the kitchen shown in the photos because the host forbade it for “safety reasons,” so we had to eat out. There was no outdoor dining area, no soundproofing, and no privacy. Other guests could see anyone showering in the bathtub, which had no plug and could only be used as a shower. Staff came in without notice. Christina was useless and completely incompetent, and we found the listing largely misleading and extremely dishonest. One of the worst stays we’ve had with Booking.

My family and I had a wonderful stay. We booked two apartments with private pools, and the rooms were great, with an amazing pool. Christina helped with everything, from car rental to bus route advice and lots more. Highly recommend!
