Hotel Don Pascual

The location didn’t work well for us. It was always a hike to the main city, and neighbors set off fireworks every night and early morning, around 6am. For the price, the conditions were poor. I’ve stayed in hostels all over the country and found this one worse for both room conditions and service. The sink was broken for the first half of our stay, and there was barely any toilet paper. Reception was hard to deal with and very strict. They watched how many people were in my room and insisted on checkout at 11am. When a friend visited around 4pm, I got a passive-aggressive text saying they’d charge us for an extra person staying there. We had a bus picking us up at 1:30pm and asked to leave our bags while we went for lunch in the main part of town. They said we could leave them outside, but they wouldn’t watch them and weren’t responsible if they were robbed. I also asked for a breakfast voucher at 11:05am and was told no because breakfast closes at 11. Fair enough, but it showed how strict they were and how little they cared about customer satisfaction. Way overpriced for what you get.

The owners were super nice, and they let us leave our bags for a few hours before and after check-in and checkout. It’s a very short walk from the main part of town, but far enough away to stay quiet. There was renovation work going on, but our room was nice. Having a private room and bathroom with its own key was a welcome break from hostel travel. The mattresses were just okay and the pillows lumpy, but that felt about right for a cheap hostel bed. The shower didn’t get hot. I’d stay again.

The room was clean and the beds were comfortable, and breakfast was small but okay. The showers weren’t really warm. It’s a little outside the center, though honestly, everything is close.

The customer service was AMAZING, and having a private room was really nice. The price was alright too. But the rooms were lackluster and had a distinct smell, maybe from the humidity. There’s no AC, and our shower had no hot water. The toilet wasn’t working when we arrived, though they fixed it promptly. We heard pounding music by our room all night during our stay, so this may not be the place if you need a good night’s sleep.
