Hotel Posada don Miguel

I spent a week at Posada don Miguel while going to Spanish school. It’s central but set away from the main road and restaurant and bar noise. The hotel and rooms were clean and comfortable, the WiFi worked well, and there’s a kitchen for making your own meals. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The WiFi was good, and there’s an accessible rooftop. I stayed one night in November 2024. My room was very small but clean, with no lake or scenic views. The location was okay, near the main tourist area and about a 15-20 minute walk from the lake shore. The shower had hot water, though its temperature sometimes changed randomly.

The room was spacious, and I liked sitting with wine on the little porch. It’s a cute hotel with nice front desk staff, though there’s no air conditioning. Breakfast was okay. As Americans in Guatemala, it felt like the wait staff ignored us once we’d received basic service.

We stayed three or four days by the lake, and this was exactly the kind of place we wanted: safe, comfortable beds, nice staff, and clean. We were three friends in a room with three single beds, and the bathroom was good. The kitchen was great, with pans, a fridge, and utensils, and we made breakfast there some mornings. The relaxed rooftop is nothing fancy, just open space with chairs, a table, and lounge chairs, but it was perfect for hanging out in the early evening. The hotel is down a little passageway and felt very safe at night. There’s a spot right by the hotel that makes fresh tortillas, 2-3 for 1 Quetzal. We didn’t hear any noise from the hotel day or night. We’d absolutely recommend it!
