Grand Plaza Hotel

For the price, this was a great value and I’d stay again. The room was clean, the A/C worked, the lobby had recently been renovated, and the pillow was fluffy. Soap, shampoo, hot water, and stain-free sheets were all there. The hotel is near the beach and shops, and parking was free, available, and secure. There were no washcloths, the bed wasn’t soft, and I could hear everything from neighboring rooms and the hallway. A firm bed seems typical in Asia, so I assume that’s the case here.

An elderly waitress at this hotel seemed to have trouble hearing customers and understanding what they said. She should see a doctor, and in my opinion she shouldn’t be working here.

I book this hotel for last-minute trips because it’s close to lots of restaurants and shops, and check-in is usually easy. It’s budget-friendly, and as a solo traveler I haven’t had any safety issues. You’ll need to arrange a taxi for the airport. There are also shuttle stops nearby for trips to the malls, Village of Donki, and other resorts. Book those separately on the shuttle website. The Donki shuttle also takes cash.

The location was okay, with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby, but the room and service were awful. My sister and I waited about 25 minutes for a luggage cart, then gave up because it was taking so long. The lobby counter was dirty and smelled strange. Our room smelled old, and both beds had stained sheets with hairs on them. We asked housekeeping for clean sheets and changed them ourselves. The bathroom wasn’t clean either, with hair everywhere, a cigarette smell, and dirty-looking floors. The air-con filter was packed with dust. In the morning, before leaving for my sister’s appointment, we asked them to take the trash, change the sheets, and bring fresh towels. When we returned that evening, nothing had been done.
