Apple Hotel (Causeway Bay)

Being close to shops and plenty of restaurants is a real plus, though many of the nearby places are on the pricier, upscale side. We stayed as three adults, and the room was so compact we had to take turns opening our luggage. The space beneath the beds for bags helped a little. The bathroom was unexpectedly roomy and comfortable, although a bidet and a larger bin would have been welcome. Staff were all right, but didn’t seem especially approachable, perhaps because they were busy. A reasonable pick if location matters more to you than room size.

The good parts are the quick Wi-Fi, a concierge available around the clock, and an elevator that worked reliably. Convenience stores, malls, lots of food options, and the MTR are all nearby. The room felt tiny even for one person. I’ve heard that’s common in budget hotels in Hong Kong, though I’m not sure. If all you need is somewhere to sleep, it works, but the bed and pillow weren’t very comfortable. The sink and bins are small too. Housekeeping and fresh sheets aren’t provided automatically, so you need to ask. Put rubbish outside your door before 4 p.m. for collection.

There’s a lot to like about the location, with major sights and the train station close by. Booking was easy, and the staff were accommodating, including letting us leave our luggage before check-in. The hallways were clean, and the lobby had a lovely scent that reminded me of a wellness center. Finding the entrance can be tricky because it’s so small. Inside, the room is compact with limited amenities, and the bathroom is especially tiny, which could be uncomfortable for taller guests.

We were only here before our cruise, but it worked out well for us. Time Square, the MRT and a bus station were close. Hong Kong rooms can be a challenge, but we could tuck our luggage underneath and still had space to move around. The lounge was quite large, with what I’d guess was a vintage Hong Kong or Peranakan feel. My only bad memory is having to pay for a fork and chopsticks. There isn’t a fork in a Hong Kong instant noodle cup! 🤣🫠
