I’ve stayed at Bishop Lei twice and would come back. Rooms are small, but have what you need to be comfortable. The staff are friendly, it’s super clean, and there’s always tea and cookies at reception.

Mandy at the front desk was so kind. After my 16-hour flight, I landed early in the morning and she helped get me a room as soon as she could. I waited in the lobby and watched her call housekeeping right away to clean a room as soon as someone else checked out. She made the stay wonderful. The room was small but had everything I needed as a solo traveler, and the bed was comfortable. Getting around the mid-levels on foot can be a bit of a climb. Walking to Central station takes at least 15-20 minutes, and the Mid-Levels Escalator switches direction at different times of day, so keep that in mind. There’s also a bus stop right outside, which was useful for getting down to Causeway Bay or Wanchai.

The biggest letdown was the swimming pool. It had been closed for annual maintenance since 1st Dec 2025 and was still shut in mid-January. I picked the hotel because I wanted to use the pool, and the closure only came to my attention after I got to my room and saw a note on the desk. The listing should have mentioned it, unless I missed that information. The other hassle was my deluxe room on the 19th floor being opposite the lift. People waiting there talked loudly, sometimes for a while, and woke me at night and early in the morning. The restaurant/cafe was also a miss for me. I had one quick dinner; the staff were friendly, but the green curry had gristly chicken, so I wouldn’t eat there again. There were plenty of positives. All the staff, from check-in and concierge to housekeeping and restaurant, were fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable, I slept well on the mattress, and the desk by the window had a nice city view and was pleasant for working. There was a standard wardrobe with a few shelves and a small safe that wouldn’t fit a laptop, plus a unit with an empty mini-fridge, shelf, kettle, coffee, tea, creamer, sugar, cups, and glasses. Hong Kong regulations meant no water in the room, but there was a dispenser by the lift. The aircon worked well and wasn’t too loud, unless you’re a light sleeper. The in-room Wi-Fi was strong, and there was a TV with the channels shown in one of my pictures. The bathroom was clean and perfectly usable, though a bit dated and small to move around in, so watch your elbows. The listing said no toiletries, but my room had hand wash, body wash, and shampoo. The shower had a fixed head and a handheld one, with warm water and decent pressure. There’s a small gym with a couple of treadmills, a stepping machine, bike, and rowing machine. Sometimes the machines look switched off, but get on and move them and the screens come on. The hotel also has a complimentary shuttle that loops to Hong Kong station, Far East Finance Centre, and Hong Kong Convention & Exhibitions Centre before returning. It runs almost hourly, though at irregular times, so get a timetable from reception. A convenience store is nearby. Leave the hotel, turn right, follow the road as it bends left, then take the incline on the right. The location is good for the price, and Soho and Central are easy to walk down to, though coming back up is a bit of a schlep. You can take a bus or the shuttle instead. Get a physical Octopus card for foreigners when you arrive for buses and the MTR. Single-journey MTR tickets are also available, but you have to buy them with cash. For a reasonably priced mid-level hotel, Bishop Lei Int'l House hits the spot. I’d definitely stay again.

The hotel is older, but the rooms are kept spotlessly clean and refreshed. You can see the work in the updated carpets, wallpaper, and rooms. A south-facing room gives spectacular city views. The location is spot on for expat food and nightlife in the mid-levels, and the mid-level elevators and stairs are just a few minutes’ walk away.

We chose this hotel because it’s very close to the Peak Tram, and the neighborhood is beautiful. Staff were excellent and really helpful, the rooms were clean, and we had a great view. We got off the A11 bus at the wrong stop and had to walk up the hill. If it’s your first visit to Hong Kong, Uber seemed to work very well for us. We had a bit of trouble with the taxis.
