Best Western Hotel Causeway Bay

My family and I moved to another hotel ten minutes away after just one night. The smell was awful, like weed or skunk, and the room was smaller than my closet. They call that “standard.” The sheets looked old and had little stains, the hallways were cramped, and we could hear everything outside through the closed door. The bathroom was about the size of a shoe rack, and a slit in the door left little privacy. Getting in and out was a chore: find the entrance hole in the alley, take an elevator to reception, then another to the rooms, which smelled too. Staff were somewhat rude to jet-lagged guests, though honestly I don’t blame them. The service fit what I’d expect from a one-star hole in the wall. The one upside was the location, near shopping malls, places to eat, and bus stops. They charge $55HKD for water, which is ridiculous when you can get it for $18HKD at a 711 or somewhere. My mother was misled by the booking site photos and reviews into thinking the hotel would be upscale. I wouldn’t recommend it. It felt like the bare minimum, and the photos and positive reviews don’t tell the story.

For four nights over New Year 2026, I paid a very high price and came away disappointed. The room was tiny, the washroom even tinier, and the door wouldn’t lock properly and had gaps. The rooms felt dirty, daily cleaning was poor, and noise from outside came through the closed door. Housekeeping only cleaned the washroom and replaced bin liners. They didn’t properly clean or dust the room. They never changed our sheets, pillowcases, blankets, or towels during the stay, and never replaced the bathroom soap either. The pillows were extremely hard and gave both my husband and me neck pain, so we slept badly. No dental kits, comb, shaving kit, or shower cap were provided. I understand Hong Kong rules may mean hotels don’t give water bottles, but at another Hong Kong hotel I did get basic amenities, and here we had to buy drinking water from the vending machine despite the high room price. Breakfast was particularly poor for vegetarians. There was basically only bread and butter, with no fruit or other vegetarian choices. A strong unpleasant smell, like egg or tea or something similar, filled the breakfast floor and made it unbearable to stand there even for a minute. For what we paid at New Year, this didn’t meet basic expectations for cleanliness, comfort, amenities, or service. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially to families or vegetarian travelers.

We booked three nights but left after the first night because the room was so dusty and smelled strongly of old carpet. We got sick by morning from breathing in the dust, and my girlfriend had a nosebleed. I complained at the front desk, and they agreed to clean again, but after the second cleaning it was still just as dusty. They couldn’t do anything about it, and the room didn’t feel fit to stay in. The hotel wouldn’t refund us for the nights we didn’t use and took no responsibility. It felt like money was all they cared about, not clean rooms or guests’ well-being. I’ve never had a worse hotel experience. I’m writing this because I hope nobody else has to go through the same thing.

It’s a comfortable, affordable budget option and decent value for the money. The rooms are quite small and the surrounding area isn’t the nicest. I might come back for a short stay, mainly because of the price and convenience, though it wouldn’t be my favorite place overall.
