Mini Central

The room was basically a closet with a shower, but it was affordable, and for the price it was pretty good. Hong Kong is expensive, so I can live with that. The location is great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I was surprised they use paper towels for the shower, but they worked much better than I expected.

The rooms are small, but mine was fine for one night. The next morning, the housekeeper came straight in without knocking. When I called staff about it, he said it was only my word that the cleaner hadn’t knocked, instead of saying he’d check. A pretty unbelievable response. This happened on the morning of 21 Jan 2026.

The uphill walk and a flight of stairs with luggage were inconvenient. The towels weren’t good either, though I had brought my own. The rooms are small, as expected in Hong Kong, and the clear glass around the toilet means there’s no privacy in the bathroom. Still, the hotel has its own building, unlike many Hong Kong budget stays that share space with several hostels. There was no wait for the elevator, and the lobby was beautiful and welcoming. Reception were accommodating and let us store our luggage, while check-in and checkout were smooth. Central is a handy base for exploring, with good food nearby. For the price and location, it’s a convenient stay with good service.

The walk uphill and steep stairs are a problem if that’s difficult for you. I also wouldn’t share a room here with anyone other than a partner, since the bathroom is separated from the bedroom by see-through glass. The room was miserable to spend time in. There’s no sitting area, just a bed with barely enough space on one side to reach the bathroom, while the other side is against the wall. We couldn’t eat comfortably in the room during our first two nights. The shower was cramped enough that a large person would have trouble using it. There were no flip-flops, shampoo, or other free toiletries. Towels were disposable, and we had to ask reception for a fresh one each day. I don’t understand the glowing reviews beyond the location near the main street. Booking here was a big mistake, and I won’t return.
