Royal Park Hotel

The location is good, close to the train station, and the room was decent. But the washroom door wouldn’t lock, and even using the laundry costs extra. Other hotels I’ve stayed at offer laundry for free. For what I paid, I expected more.

The service was impeccable. Amy So at the front desk was very helpful, room service was delightful, and the breakfast team were super nice. Staff at the G floor entrance opened the door for us each time, even when we had no luggage. We also found the gym clean, well equipped, and with cleaning equipment available. It isn’t open 24 hours. The semi-outdoor pool stayed warm even in winter. We didn’t try Sakurada Restaurant, though it seems highly ranked. Our room was amazing and very spacious, with a sofa after we got upgraded. Nothing malfunctioned. There are water dispensers on every floor since the government prohibits water bottles in rooms. The hairdryer, though, is old and can get very hot. Sha Tin is convenient, with a podium connecting the hotel to New Town Plaza on the third floor. The Royal Park Hotel (Pak Hok Ting St.) bus stop is right there, and the A46 goes to and from the airport. From New Town Plaza you can reach Sha Tin MTR, served by the East Rail Line, for CUHK, Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau to visit Shenzhen, and Admiralty in the city centre. Though many people don’t think of Sha Tin when they think of HK, I recommend spending a few days here. Che Kung Temple, Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery, and Sha Tin Racecourse are nearby, and you get to experience authentic Hong Kong.

The location is a big plus: buses and the MTR make it easy to get around Hong Kong, and the hotel and room were generally clean. But I had several maintenance and service problems during my stay on Level 9. The toilet seat’s soft-close feature didn’t work, unlike on my previous stays. The flush also sometimes kept running and failed to refill properly, making the toilet unusable. Maintenance fixed part of it after I called the front desk, but the issue still came back occasionally. There were also times when no spare toilet paper was left, even after housekeeping, so I had to phone down for more. At the entrance, we were carrying six pieces of luggage and trying to get into our transport. A staff member at the main door was looking at their phone and didn’t help or open it. That was disappointing. The hotel’s clean and well placed, but the upkeep and service need improvement.

The rooms were spacious and spotless, the service excellent, and I couldn’t find anything wrong with the hotel. The pillow menu was a nice touch and helped me find one that made for a comfortable night. It’s connected to Sha Tin Plaza shopping centre, convenient for food and shopping. From there, it’s a 5-10 minute walk through the centre to the MTR, with easy access to Kowloon and other attractions. I’d definitely stay again.
