The Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong

My favorite part was the water filter and dispenser right in the room. The room itself was clean and spacious, with accurate temperature control, strong water pressure, and hot water almost instantly. It stayed pretty quiet at night despite the busy roads, and the small TV wasn't an issue for me. The price makes it hard to find fault, especially with so many MTR entrances, bus stops, friendly eateries, and fancy malls nearby, plus an easy walk to the ferry pier. Personal care items such as toothbrushes aren't supplied for environmental reasons, but you can buy them at reception. I strongly recommend it.

The location is perfect, and the rooms are spacious by Hong Kong standards. My partial harbour view room was a good deal, and breakfast was decent. Housekeeping only comes every 3-4 days, with trash collected in between. There's no room service and no water in the rooms, but otherwise things were fine. You get what you pay for.

What keeps bringing me back to the Salisbury is the understated service, from the doorman and housekeepers to the concierge and reception staff. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are well furnished and kept immaculate. It's right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, overlooking the harbor, close to the MTR, Nathan Road, Ocean Center, and the Star Ferry. For that location, it's about a quarter of the price of the Peninsula next door. I've stayed elsewhere in Hong Kong on business, but since retiring, I always return to the Salisbury.

For a family trip, the location of The Salisbury YMCA made getting around Hong Kong so easy. We were only a few minutes from the Star Ferry and MTR, and could walk to the Avenue of Stars for harbour views each evening. Restaurants and shops nearby were another real plus. Great value for its location, and we'd highly recommend it to families.
