Villa Valjalo

The room was clean, with plenty of towels, though no soap was provided. Staff were friendly and welcoming. There was a small kitchen with a few plates and drinking glasses, which was handy. WiFi was fast when it worked, but kept dropping out randomly on both my phone and iPad, which got frustrating. I also couldn't use the TV because channel search required a password. Be careful finding your way back to the villa on foot. The Google Maps pin is wrong, and the area's changes in height aren't shown there, making it hard to get around. I spent at least 30 minutes looking for the place even though I was only 200 yards away. Write down the location before going out. I also had ants in my room, crawling onto the bed and sometimes onto my skin. Decent enough for a stay of just a few days.

The view is the one good thing about Villa Valjalo. At first, arrival seemed promising, but the rooms were very outdated and badly in need of repairs. Plug sockets were loose in the walls, chairs were held together with duct tape and had metal wire sticking out, and the bath fittings were dirty and moldy. The bed was basic and uncomfortable, the sheets were old and tatty, and there were ants in the room. There were signs all over the property listing what guests could and couldn't do, along with the charges for breaking the rules. That made for a warm welcome. I also had a hard time communicating with the host and couldn't reach them on the number provided. It's a shame, because the location could make this a beautiful holiday let, but the place is neglected and certainly not worth the money. I'd strongly advise looking elsewhere for a Dubrovnik trip.

The harbour views were great, and the stay was okay. Getting around means tackling a very steep hill or more than 40 steps, so it wouldn't suit older people.

A really bad experience. I strongly recommend not going, especially at that price. It was overpriced.
