Boutique Hotel Bacvice

Ana and her team were the highlight of our time in Spit. They're such lovely people, and the hotel was immaculately clean, with heated bathroom tiles as a nice bonus. Breakfast had what we needed, plus a few local treats we really enjoyed. Don't be put off by the facade. We'd come back in a heartbeat. Thank you, Ana!

The hotel was tidy and clean, with friendly staff, a good breakfast and plenty of facilities nearby. It's close to the beach. The room looked just like the pictures, but getting there means climbing four flights of stairs because there's no lift. Parking is an issue too: there's a small lot, but at 9am it turns into a car wash. It would help if someone could meet guests on arrival, carry their bags upstairs and arrange a better parking spot.

The room was spotless and just like the photos, with a lovely shower, comfortable beds and excellent blackout blinds. The staff were helpful when I needed some “house material” to clean a wound. Those were the good parts. I gave three stars for the room's size and cleanliness, and the friendly staff, but the noise and the repeated omission of the no-lift detail cost it stars. There are just seven rooms, so although I arrived early, I had to wait for another guest to check out. That's fair enough. They knew I was waiting, offered me breakfast and turned the room around quickly, so I was in by 11:45. I did the check-in paperwork while waiting. They initially tried to add a city tax, but I had a printed confirmation email showing it was already included in my reserved price. Ana at reception honoured that price. They said they couldn't see when the reservation had been made. Another guest was shouting that money had been stolen from his room, which may have influenced how they handled my fee, but who knows. The no-lift situation was a real problem. There was no mention of it in the booking.com description, so I had to haul my heavy bag up four flights without help. If I'd known, honestly, I'd have booked somewhere else. I checked agoda, hotels.com and other sites while there, and they all seemed to leave out the same detail. I wasn't even sure I was at the right place at first. From outside, it looks more like a hostel than a hotel. The only sign is a blue one saying BHB, and the building could pass for an apartment or office block, with signs for other businesses adding to the confusion. The evening receptionist played dance-pop loudly enough for me to hear in my room. I could also hear people walking around, seemingly very heavily, and talking at all hours. It had that hostel feel.

Our receptionist, Anna, was genuinely kind and helpful, and the rooms are beautiful, tastefully designed. But the breakfast was the worst we had in Split, even compared with hotels where we paid 50 euros a night. The photos gave a very different impression: there were only a few choices, nothing was fresh, and the ingredients seemed cheap. Breakfast is an essential part of good service, so please use realistic pictures and lower the prices if you can't meet expectations. We spent our last night in Split here and came away disappointed. There was no elevator, we couldn't get hot water in the shower, and the coffee was undrinkable. Those may not be major issues on their own, but they matter when you're paying 175 euros a night. Anna did her best, no doubt. As things stand, I wouldn't stay here again, since Split has plenty of cheaper options.
