Adagio Hostel Basilica

The place is easy to get around from, and I enjoyed my few nights there in January. It was inexpensive too: I think I paid 57 euros for four nights, plus a locker lock. They also let me pay in euros cash. I didn’t use the common area; the photos I took show the outside of the building.

Once I got inside, the service was nice, but arriving late was awkward. I couldn’t get in through the street door until someone who lived there came out and opened it. The bed curtains leave too much exposed, so I had to use my own sleep mask to make it dark. The nearby street is handy for going to bars, but it’s noisy when you’re trying to sleep.

The location is handy for shops, sights, restaurants, and public transport, and the desk staff were friendly and helpful. My eight-bed dorm was at the front of the building. It was very clean, and the shower had warm water and good pressure. The top-bunk ladders are awkward, though, and the curtains don’t cover the whole bed, so I used a sheet or towel for privacy. Towels aren’t included and cost €1. There’s no hostel sign on the street, so finding the entrance can be tricky. I added photos of the street gate and the second gate from the alley. If they’re closed, dial 12 on the panel to be buzzed in. Also, the road noise was relentless, with cars, motorbikes, sirens, and people shouting. It sounded like they were in the room. Light sleepers should bring good earplugs or choose somewhere else.

The kitchen was fine, though it’d be nice if everyone washed their dishes. The hostel itself was super clean and quiet, right in the city center. We got especially good beds, a little apart from the others, and had a fan.
