After a long trip, I arrived in the rain, tired and eager to get into my room. Instead, I found a small, run-down-looking hut, not what I’d expected from the name Bed and beer. I’d paid for a room but hadn’t received any entry instructions or a contact number. I assumed I could register at reception, but there was no one there. The doors were locked, and even the people in the empty restaurant, which looked like part of the same complex, couldn’t help. Only two waiters were around. They watched me wandering back and forth outside in the rain, trying to get in. I called the number listed on Google several times, but nobody answered. With no way to enter and an average Airbnb response time reportedly around four hours, I started looking for somewhere else rather than risk spending the rest of the day, or possibly the night, outside. I messaged the proprietor to explain that this had been a bad experience and ask for my money back so we could put the whole thing behind us. Three hours later, he said he couldn’t know whether I’d actually stayed there, and that even if I hadn’t, it was my own fault for not getting inside, so he wouldn’t refund me. He then claimed the phone number ending in 55 that comes up when you Google the place wasn’t really Bed and beer’s number, but some fictitious number I’d made up and had nothing to do with their “hotel.” Instead of apologizing, he kept trying to justify refusing the refund and make me doubt what had happened. I’d suggest paying 10 euro more for a room at the nearby Thomas hotel or somewhere else. I never got inside, but from outside the place looked more like a potato-sack depot or warehouse than somewhere to stay.

Everything was clean and in tip-top shape. A lovely place to stay, and I’ll book again.

It’s an eclectic place. The bartender’s T-shirt, with its love for totalitarian dictatorships, was a bit offputting, though.

A really charming, cozy place with its own character. Definitely worth visiting!
