Vagabond Soho

We had a hard time unwinding because loud groups were partying on different sides of the apartment on both weeknights we stayed. The other residents clearly aren't keen on short-term guests, judging by the signs, and I can see their point. Vagabond Soho is managed by a private host inside an apartment complex, which makes that tension pretty noticeable. The apartment was just passable. The pillows felt hard and lumpy, the bed was very firm, and I woke with a headache both mornings. There weren't any paper towels, and the small supply of toilet paper ran out fast. The parking garage has assigned private spaces, but other tenants or guests often disregard them. To get the door opened, someone has to go inside the building and press a button, both on arrival and when leaving, which is awkward when you're traveling as a pair. The street isn't one of Budapest's nicer areas, and the view is limited. My husband and I booked at the last minute during our European honeymoon. It wasn't a terrible stay, just very average and definitely not great.

We didn't need a car at all, since restaurants, bus stops, supermarkets, and everything else we needed were within walking distance. The apartment was in a peaceful area and was clean and tidy. Laura was lovely and helpful when arranging our check-in. We had a really nice stay and would definitely recommend it.

We found plenty of places to eat nearby, from pizzerias to Turkish restaurants, and supermarkets within walking distance made it simple to pick up groceries and cook. The apartment had a fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, stove, pots, pans, glasses, and lots of kitchen utensils. It was all very clean and well suited to self-catering. We skipped breakfast. The internet was very fast, and buses and trams were close. The metro was only one tram stop away, though we mostly used buses, trolleybuses, and trams because Budapest metro stations generally don't have elevators. There isn't a reception desk. After booking online, we got an email asking for details such as passport numbers for online check-in. On arrival day, another email gave us the entrance code, apartment number, and key box code, with clear instructions. Still, late one night, someone who apparently hadn't understood the directions tried to force our room door open. The in-room intercom also rang late at night when someone buzzed from outside. There are nightclubs around the building, but they seemed harmless, and I didn't see anything bad happen. We had a fantastic stay at Vagabond Soho in Budapest and I'd highly recommend it, especially if you like having kitchen facilities.

After a flood, the flat smelled of chemicals and damp, and we couldn't get a good night's sleep. There wasn't another flat available or any alternative offered. Vagabond also gave no compensation, saying they couldn't refund the accommodation because we had fully used the services. That felt like money was being put ahead of health and comfort, especially given the full premium price for a damp place. We moved the next day to another apartment that wasn't ready yet and left our things there. After a long sightseeing walk, we came back exhausted and found the bed creaked with every turn and movement. I complained again, and they changed it. I don't want a stressful stay, and I don't appreciate paying a lot for poor service. I'd been very happy with Vagabond on a previous visit, so this experience was beyond what I could have imagined. As a returning guest, I won't stay with them again, and given the poor quality and service, I can't recommend the place.
