Champlung Mas Hotel Legian

The location and the pool are good, and the staff are lovely and trying their best. But this hotel urgently needs a major overhaul. Everything feels budget and worn out, and the noise is incredible. You can hear neighbors opening beer cans until 4am, and even constant belching carries into the room. I suspect the flimsy, single-glazed doors are to blame. They don't close properly, are damaged, and seem to be hanging by a thread. The breakfast was cheap bulk food and low quality. I booked five nights but left after three because I couldn't take it any longer. The booking sites need to be updated with real photos, not pictures from when the hotel was first built. What you walk into doesn't match the photos, which is deceptive. Given its prime location, this place could be fantastic after a refurbishment, but right now I'd classify it as a very low-budget, low-quality hostel or homeless shelter.

We'd stayed here before without problems, but this time the air-conditioning in our room was terrible. They kept having an “engineer” look at it, and I spent hours waiting in the room. We should have changed rooms or hotels. Nobody offered to move us. Eventually we demanded a fan, at least so we wouldn't wake up melted into the bed. On day two of our five-day stay, we asked for a late checkout and were told no because the hotel was full. We then asked to book an extra night and were told again that it was full, but to try Agoda or Booking.com because rooms might be available there. What? We booked another room through one of those sites, though it was a different grade. Reception said it would be no problem to move straight over, and I reminded them on the day. Still, we waited for hours in the stifling room before finally moving at 3pm, even though check-in was at 2pm. The next room was lovely and cold. I told them to fix the AC before the next guests, but I seriously doubt they will. Room 304. I won't stay here again.

This is my second stay, and I'll definitely be back. The two pools are great, and I loved happy hour from 4-6pm. The spa was great too, and I had a really relaxing 60-minute full-body massage. It's a beautiful hotel with incredible staff and great service, at a good price. Very central, with just a short walk to the beach.

I spent two weeks here on my first trip to Bali and couldn't fault the hotel. It's an older place, but the rooms are spacious, clean and tidy, and they're made up daily. My housekeeper, suriatkama, though I'm not sure I've spelled that right, was a lovely, kind young man who was always cheerful and a joy to see each day. The pools and spa are fantastic, the happy hour is daily, and the food was amazing and very well priced. All the staff greet you and seem happy to be there. I'll definitely stay again.
