Pondok Tingal Hotel

I love this place and hope you enjoy it too. It’s a nice, quiet place with room to relax or garden, and it works for solo travelers, couples, or groups. For my budget, it offered western style and high standards of hospitality. Thanks.

The room was clean, the staff were friendly, and the family room in front of the pool worked well for us. I had a really enjoyable evening swimming there with my wife and kids. It’s near Borobudur temple and about 20 minutes from Sendangsono. Breakfast needs improvement: when we came down at 9 am, most of the food was nearly gone, and we had to ask for cereal for the kids. Otherwise everything was good and we had a lot of fun. We’ll be back someday.

The grounds are spacious and lovely, with open areas and a pretty traditional style. Our standard room, though, felt cramped even without a wardrobe or desk. There’s a pool by the larger accommodation, and Borobudur’s entrance is about a 15-minute walk away. The food was okay, and the staff were warm and hospitable.

Pondok Tingal is a quiet, simple place with a lovely pool, and you can walk to Borobudur and two less-known temples. The rooms make a comfortable base for seeing the town, with Western-style bathrooms and, in ours, air-conditioning. The restaurant menu is short, with local dishes and a few Western choices. Give the wedang uwuh a try. Staff were polite and cheerful without hovering. After more than a week in Jakarta, I was glad to find a town with clean streets, sidewalks, pleasant weather, shops and minimarkets. There are plenty of places to eat on the sidewalk with locals just outside the hotel. Some shopkeepers speak English, and most could explain what they were selling and the price. This isn’t one of those flashy, over-the-top resorts, which suited me. Try it!
