Papaya Guesthouse

I had a nice breakfast in the morning, then rented a scooter from the staff for the day. Everyone was helpful. The place is just off the main road, so it's close to the action but still quiet and peaceful by the pool. A lovely spot to stay.

After a busy day around Canggu or at the beaches, it was so nice to come back to the garden and refreshing pool at Papaya Guesthouse. The rooms were neat, very clean, and decorated beautifully. It felt like a little oasis in a lively, trendy part of Canggu. From owner Gaby to the rest of the staff, everyone was friendly and helpful with planning trips and whatever else we needed. I loved my stay and can highly recommend it.

I spent five months living here, and Papaya guesthouse will always have a place in my heart. My room was bright and airy, and the whole property is green, charming, and comfortable. From upstairs you can even see the mountain in the distance, which was lovely. The location made it easy to walk to two major supermarkets and other places around Canggu. With a private villa behind Papaya and its own security post, I felt extremely safe. The staff were kind and helpful, and owner Gaby was amazing too. It's been the most excellent experience.

There were a few practical issues during our stay. Noise from the main road carried on through the day, we heard a nearby bar playing music one evening, and the rooms don't block sound well, so sometimes dogs barking at night came through. The pool water wasn't clear and could have used cleaning. Both fridges were always full, probably with the host's breakfast food, leaving little room for guests' things. We also had trouble with the hot water, and on our last day there was none at all. The host did let us shower in another room. The location is a bit far from the beaches, so you'll need a bike. That said, the property has a nice, shady garden area and a decent pool with a few loungers. Rooms have their own entries and balconies, and the design is nice. The air conditioning worked well. There's an on-site bike rental at a good price, and the well-equipped kitchen has free water, tea, and coffee. Cold drinks are available to buy, and two supermarkets are about a 10-minute walk away.
