I went up to the fourth floor, which felt more like the sixth. The room was clean, with no Wi-Fi or hot water, but it had a beautiful ocean view. I opened the deck door to enjoy it, with the nice white sheets in view, and then saw the big rat come in from the deck into the bedroom. I freaked out. That was enough for me. I know someone might ask why the rat in the lobby wasn’t enough to turn me away, but I didn’t think the whole building could be infested. Even a budget traveler has limits. The hotel was being renovated. While I waited in the lobby, a big rat ran up the stairs. I wondered if I’d seen things, or if it was a squirrel. I really wanted to see the room and find out about the bad reviews, but after that, no.

I don’t know if they claim to be open, but the place seemed basically abandoned. An Airbnb host sent me there, saying it was the listing shown in the app. It looked nothing like it.
