Sunset Hill Hotel

The room and bathroom were decent for my one night at Sunset Hill Hotel, but the stay left me a little underwhelmed. The property felt dim and quiet, and construction nearby blocked the sea view from my room. Some furniture looked dated, and the stairs up to the lobby were quite steep, something older guests may want to consider. It’s a simple place. For the same budget, there may be nearby hotels that feel more comfortable and refreshing.

Construction directly in front of the hotel was loud and ugly, and it ruined the view and our stay. The towels smelled terrible, like they hadn’t been washed properly, and the water pressure was so weak that even a shower was frustrating. I’d give this place zero stars if I could. I’d booked and paid in advance at a confirmed price, but on arrival staff suddenly asked for extra money because of some “confusion” on their side. It felt completely unprofessional and honestly like they were trying to scam me. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, save your money and stay elsewhere.

The shower ran very slowly, parking was a nightmare on the steep hill with very little space, and the room had no TV, supposedly because it was “under maintenance.” There was no tea or coffee maker, or even the basic amenities cheaper hotels provide. The view is the only good thing at Sunset Hill Hotel, and plenty of places in Labuan Bajo offer that without staying here. For what we paid, the value just wasn’t there. What we got should’ve cost under 500k IDR, not the amount charged. I definitely don’t recommend it. We learned a big lesson from the experience.

It’s close to the airport and fairly near the town centre, but construction on a new hotel in front will block the view from half the rooms. The place is older and worn, and needs repairs. The aircon didn’t cool properly, even though staff said they’d fixed it. Fine for a short stay if you’re not too fussy.
