Hotel Setia Budi by ZUZU

If you're looking at this because you're going on a Bromo tour and only need somewhere cheap to leave your stuff and sleep afterward, find another place. This "hotel" felt like it came straight out of a horror movie. It was so bad it was almost funny, like those one-star highway motels in American films. The sheets and walls were missing only blood and human fluids. I didn't check, so maybe they were there. I'd read the reviews beforehand, though I wouldn't trust the Indonesian ones. They might be family or friends. One girl a few months ago called it "like a 5 star hotel." If you're going to lie, say something believable. It seemed obvious they'd got people to give high scores to inflate the rating. My expectations were already low, but wow. When I arrived, the receptionist was smoking cigarettes at the desk. From the amount of smoke in reception, he seemed to be chain-smoking there. I waited while they "cleaned my room," then got the key and went in. It clearly hadn't been cleaned. There was dust, dirt, dead insects, and hair everywhere. I checked for bedbugs and didn't find any, but don't get it twisted, the room was full of other insects. Little black ones were all over the walls, and there were small white balls that looked like insect eggs. The toilet looked like it had been sprayed with the showerhead, which I guess was the cleaning. The floor, toilet, and seat were soaked. When I tried to wash my hands, my feet got wet too because the drain was broken from rust. There were urine stains burned into the toilet seat, no toilet paper, and the bidet thing didn't work. I ended up not using the toilet for my whole stay. The metal mesh on both the outside window and the one facing reception was badly attached, so mosquitoes could get in. I had to kill a handful during my short stay. With only the mesh, I could also hear everything outside and at reception. There was a fan in the room. It was powerful but so noisy I could still hear it through my newest Sony earbuds, which are supposed to have some of the best noise cancelling. They left breakfast in front of my door, but after seeing the room's hygiene, I assumed it could be a health risk and didn't touch it. I decided to stay anyway because I'd be on the Bromo sunrise tour most of the time. It was a crazy experience, and not one I'd want again. Look for somewhere else, and leave this place to the people who think it's a five-star hotel. Madness.
