We only booked a day ahead, but Ubud Hills Villas & Resort still accommodated us in a beautiful deluxe villa with a private pool at the top of the resort. There were lots of steps to get up there, though the elevated views and peaceful waterfall sounds made it worthwhile. Dian, our concierge, was especially wonderful, as was the rest of the staff. It felt like a real hideaway in Ubud, and we’d happily return.

We really enjoyed the private pool and its great view, and the staff were very friendly. Ubud center was about 20 minutes away, which felt a bit far for us. The room also had lots of insects coming in, mostly ants and little spiders. I understand that can happen in the middle of the jungle, but the bed was a different concern. The sheets looked clean and smelled good, yet I kept feeling bites while trying to sleep. It got bad enough that I slept fully dressed to try to avoid them. I think there may have been bed bugs.

The jungle setting was the highlight for us. We spent the first week of our honeymoon here, and the room and location were stunning. Our room had a private pool and felt very luxurious. The flower-petal decorations they arranged were honestly beautiful, and our private yoga class on the deck was incredible. Meditating among all those jungle sounds felt surreal and magical. We loved waking up, walking around, or swimming with that sound all around us. We’re glad we stayed, because the scenery was unlike anything else we found, but it took patience dealing with the hotel staff. It’s deep in the jungle, with steep hills, so getting to Ubud center on foot isn’t practical. You’ll need a scooter or taxi. Bugs and lizards are around, so if you struggle with them, you may not enjoy the setting. The spa has a nice massage space, but no other spa facilities. The food menu is limited and repetitive after a few days, so I wouldn’t include lunch or dinner in the package. Room service often took over an hour, so plan ahead if you order. The staff tried to help, but we got the impression the place is still in its early stages and needs better management and communication. Requests for food or room service were often sent to the wrong team, and then several staff members would contact us separately to clarify. This happened a lot and took away from the relaxing, luxurious feel.

The staff made the trip feel much more welcoming and fulfilling. Everyone was so friendly, and the Indonesian breakfast we tried was one of the best meals I’ve had in Bali. The resort itself is quiet and relaxing, surrounded by greenery and a beautiful waterfall. Our room was clean and spacious. 10/10.

For a hotel advertised as five stars, this felt like three at best. The staff may suit some guests, but they messaged us on WhatsApp every two hours to ask when we’d return, what we were doing, and why we weren’t staying at the hotel during the day. It was really annoying. We arrived at 1:30 AM and planned to sleep in, but the receptionist called at 7:30 AM to say breakfast was ready and we should come to the restaurant. It felt like being parented. The hotel is very hidden, and that means lots of animals. My husband and I were constantly nervous about leaving our room because the tree-covered walking path made it hard to avoid spiders and other animals. Others have mentioned views, but we didn’t have any. The way up is very steep, and most taxis won’t take you all the way because they can’t get back down.
