Ala's Green Lagoon Hotels

Ala's Green Lagoon keeps drawing us back. Down a small alley off Jalan Bisma, it’s surrounded by rice fields but just a few minutes’ walk from Ubud’s restaurants, coffee shops, and spas. The rooms mix traditional charm with modern comfort, and are unique, cozy, and well equipped. Nyoman, his family, and the staff are what really make it special. They’re incredibly welcoming and helpful, and every visit feels like coming home. It’s a total delight and, for us, the quintessential Ubud stay. Can’t wait to return.

My room had the biggest bed I’ve ever seen, and it was very comfortable. The separate bathroom had a long, deep marble bath, and the decor was enchanting. Rooms are large and sumptuously appointed, and there’s a lovely pool. Tucked behind rice fields, Ala's Green Lagoon is still close to the main street and Ubud’s activities. The hosts were courteous, helpful, and entertaining. Breakfast was a treat. I recommend the omelette.

We stayed during Nyepi, but couldn’t really enjoy the authentic silent-day experience because the owners and kids were quite loud. The homestay itself is authentic and away from the noisy main streets. You need to arrive by scooter, not car. The couple working there were extremely nice and felt like proper hosts. Breakfast was delicious, and both the spacious rooms and the swimming pool were very clean.

Breakfast is made to order if you choose to have it, and they’ll do your laundry on site for a small fee. You’ll be staying in a traditional Balinese dwelling, tucked away in the heart of Ubud. We had a splendid stay, and I definitely recommend it.
