Ani's Villas

The caretaker was really helpful and booked us a one-day trip around Ubud. The food was nice, and our room was very spacious. It was quiet and serene, with the river running beside the place. I’d definitely stay here again if I get the chance 😊.

The staff are so kind, the location is close to central Ubud, and the lush valley is beautiful. The price is cheap, but the rooms badly need renovation. The ceramic soap holder in the shower has broken off, leaving a ragged edge. The floors have more cracks, holes, and stains than smooth surface, and the lamps are either loose or falling apart. There’s no window or ventilation in the bathroom, so the whole room feels damp and smells moldy.

For very budget lodging, this is an excellent spot if you want to be in the heart of Ubud without the noise. You’re right over the river, across from the nature walk, and some rooms have use of the temple. My room had a balcony on the second floor, and I posted an evening video from there. There’s plenty of balcony space, a large clean bathroom, and a good mosquito net over the bed. Bring your own toiletries.

After battling the heat and traffic, you can stop at Jiz Restaurant for an ice-cold drink, then walk 21 steps farther down the mountain to the haven of Ani’s vila. I was traveling alone in a double room and had space to spare. It had a kettle, good AC, and a lovely balcony overlooking the river ravine, with two comfy chairs and a low table. Bring insect repellent. It’s Ubud, so the little biters are everywhere. The gardens and staff are what make this place. The room had some bespoke wiring at one power point, and one bedside light was disconnected. The pool is spacious and clean, though it’s an old complex and some balustrades and umbrellas could use work. For the price, I wouldn’t complain. If you want somewhere close to central Ubud but outside it, I recommend it.
