Bali Moon Guest House

The owners are wonderful, and they've put a lot of care into the traditional Bali decor. Getting there along a path through the rice fields adds to the authentic feel. It's a lovely guest house just off Jalan Bisma. We went out at 2AM and came back around 10:30 to find fresh fruit waiting for breakfast. It doesn't get much better.

The huge terrace was almost as big as our room, which had a king-size bed and an anti-mosquito net. The whole place is decorated in Balinese style. Bali Moon Guest House was a wonderful experience, well placed for activities in Ubud while still quiet and tucked away from the busy main streets. The staff were warm and kind. We arrived very late, but the owner stayed up to welcome us and explain everything gently. Breakfast is another highlight, with Balinese dishes made fresh from fresh ingredients. I'd definitely recommend it.

Our hosts, Wayan Sasi, her husband, and their son Wayan Rey, were wonderful, as was the rest of the staff. Everyone was friendly, attentive and ready to help. Rey took us on a full-day tour and drove us in a very clean, comfortable SUV. He knows a lot about Hinduism and Balinese culture and shared it generously, while giving us space to rest when we wanted quiet. We stayed in the back tower, which I believe is protected by Ganesha, judging by the statues and decoration. The room was spacious, with a high bed framed by wooden pillars and Balinese textile art on the headboard. The whole compound is a remarkable traditional Balinese house, with separate towers, a temple, reception and kitchen at the front, then the hosts' building and the rest of the grounds laid out in classic Balinese style. There are too, some items stored in areas guests can see, as happens in much of Ubud. It didn't take away from our experience and feels like part of local life.

The location is central in Ubud but quiet, right by the edge of a rice field. We had a great stay at Bali Moon. The hosts were very welcoming, the rooms clean, breakfast really good and hot water excellent. We also took the guesthouse tour to Mt. Batur, which was excellent and well priced. A couple of small things could be improved: the shower holder is low, so you have to hold the handle over your head, and the electrical outlet was far from the bed. Luckily, I had my usual 3 meter extension cord with me. Both seem like easy fixes.
