Gedong Bali Family Homestay

Mr Gedong took us on two day tours and shared generous insights into Balinese ritual life. The family interactions were warm, and the place felt carefully looked after. With intricate carvings, statues, and daily offerings all around, Mrs and Mr Gedong’s Ubud family homestay feels like a little world of its own, lush and calm. The spotless open pavilion lets in light and stillness. We barely saw the only other guest, so the leafy gardens and quiet pool became a peaceful sanctuary. There was plenty to discover without even leaving the gate.

The Mangku family’s heritage house was wonderfully preserved, and I’ve never stayed anywhere quite like it. The temple and rooms have traditional Balinese decor, with beautiful carved wooden details on the walls that give the place remarkable character. My room was just right, with a very comfortable double bed and all the amenities you’d expect, and it was always spotless. The family and staff were kind, friendly, and eager to make my time in Ubud a great one. I hope to return soon. Thank you very much.

This was my favorite stay during two months in Indonesia by far. The bed was comfortable, the room was great, and there were amazing details all over the property. The owners and staff are the nicest people, and the location is unbeatable. Incredible restaurants, yoga, a gym, laundry, and rice fields are all within walking distance.

I chose this place because it’s an easy walk to Yoga Barn, and the rooms were neat with a comfortable bed. I liked having a few different pillows to pick from. The family compound feels traditional and peaceful, well away from the bustle outside Ubud. Mr Mangku picked me up from the airport and took me back, and when rain poured down, Mrs Mangku lent me an umbrella. Breakfast on the terrace was spectacular, fresh fruit, a banana pancake, and coffee. Those small kindnesses are part of what makes Bali feel so special.
