Check carefully which room you’re booking. I thought I’d reserved one of the newer rooms with a nice view, but got an older room with a really bad smell instead. The “special” rate was 800k for two nights, and I didn’t think it was worth it. There are plenty of nicer, cheaper places around, some really amazing ones too. I asked to switch rooms, and the only option was one above the river. It had no view, just sat above the river, and the “special” price was 1mil for two nights. I was pretty upset. That room didn’t smell, and it was big, with a great balcony, but it was old and the bathroom was very old too. It was already late afternoon, so I stayed and ended up paying for what felt like the most expensive, least worthwhile room in Ubud. There are a lot of stairs if you’re not in the new rooms. When I left, staff saw me carrying all my belongings up and didn’t offer any help. It might work for a longer stay, I guess, since there’s a kitchen and privacy. And if you get one of the new rooms, they’re nice. But for just a few nights, keep what I’ve described in mind. Compared with other great places nearby, I don’t think it’s worth the price.

Our room was spacious and lovely, and worked really well for a family with my three young kids. Kukuh house is just outside Ubud, so it’s close by without being in the traffic. There’s also a Russian restaurant right across the road where we enjoyed breakfast. The family made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. They helped with our many bags and were always around when we needed something. We had a brilliant stay, in a peaceful, beautiful part of the country, and hope to come back soon. Thanks for such a lovely holiday.

The room was dirty and in awful shape, with a strong bad smell. Gaps around the doors and windows let lizards and other insects in, and we spent much of our stay trying to keep them out. When we told the owner about a scratching sound that kept coming from outside the window, they dismissed our concern. We also found the path to the room dark and unsettling, with no proper lights. There were lots of insects and lizards along it, and coming back at night felt unsafe. The pool was dirty and smelled foul, so we couldn’t use it. Although some reviews said breakfast was available, we were told there was none, which left us feeling misled. From the start, staff seemed uninterested in helping or communicating. We tried several times to get assistance and were met with silence or dismissive responses. The whole stay was uncomfortable and frustrating, and it didn’t feel like cleanliness, guest comfort, or concerns were being taken seriously. I’d advise against staying until the place improves significantly.

The views from our room were breathtaking and made the stay feel memorable. The staff at Kukuh House gave impeccable service and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for beautiful scenery and great service.

I love it here. The staff are so friendly, the pool is breathtaking, and the bed is huge, probably the best and biggest I’ve ever slept in. Breakfast comes to the room, and you can order food there over WhatsApp. There’s free drinking water in the room too. The bathtub is nice, though a bit dirty, and there are ants in the bathroom. I don’t really mind that, and I still love the place.
