Merthayasa Bungalows

We stayed three nights and loved it. Merthayasa Bungalows is a simple but lovely hidden gem in central Ubud. For the price, you get kind, lovely people, a clean room with AC and a nice pool, right on the main street but with hardly any street noise. Being close to monkey forest means monkeys sometimes come by. Keep your things indoors instead of on the balcony. Open the curtains around 6am and you might see them running and playing around. So cute! Thank you, we'll come back.

The spacious room had a nice terrace, and the pool was spotless. I could even swim at night. The staff were really kind, and breakfast was fine, though I think it could be better. The milk coffee was good, at least. I booked an AC room through Agoda, but it turned out to have only a fan, which is why I'm giving four stars. Watch out for monkeys and keep the door shut. If you need a place without main-road noise, choose somewhere else. Enjoy!

We had a really nice stay at Merthayasa bungalows. The owners are lovely, friendly people who take good care of their guests. The rooms are good for the price and come with AC and a ceiling fan. Breakfast was perfect, with several choices. The Monkey Forest is very close, so monkeys sometimes come into the garden. Be careful with food and your belongings when they're outside. As a backpacker on a low budget, I found this place perfect. We booked three nights and added another because we were happy there. The room was clean, and the owner made the bed and tidied up a bit every day, which was a huge plus. The bed was big and extremely comfy, the bathroom was quite spacious, and we always had hot water. Our cute terrace looked out over the nice pool, and the welcoming owners were always around to answer questions. You can rent a scooter from them too. The place is surrounded by nature and CLEAN. The pool is pleasant, quiet and clean in the daytime, but it has no lights, so night swimming isn't ideal. Breakfast was nice to have without going out, though nothing wow, and there isn't any water or anything on site. WiFi was poor in the room but good on the terrace. Keep food and fruity drinks inside, even when you go swimming, because monkeys will come for them. They stole ours, but that's normal near the monkey forest. I recommend it and will definitely return.
