Rouge - Loft Matahari

Service was good, and the design is nice. The villa is large, with a big pool and a lovely rice field view, and it's close to Ubud and some nice cafes and restaurants. The wet season humidity was the one real drawback. Even with the bedroom aircon running all the time, it was very unpleasantly damp, and the walls stayed wet. We also saw more creatures than at any other places we've stayed so far, including large lizards, worms and ants.

The open-plan layout and central pool made it a great place to spend time together, and the quiet setting among the rice fields added to the calm. The staff were discreet and professional, and all the rooms had comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms, so there were no issues at all. Our family had a wonderful week at Villa Loft Matahari in July. The house is sublime, clean, modern and very well appointed, located outside the bustle of Ubud city centre. There are excellent small family-run restaurants within walking distance. We'd happily return and stay longer.

The loft is full of space, decorated with art from across the Indonesian islands, and that orange brick wall really catches your eye. The rooms are very spacious too, especially the master room, which has a luxurious feel. The pool is a treat on hot days, and the morning view over the rice fields and forest, with the volcano visible beyond, is breathtaking. It takes 10-15 minutes to reach central Ubud, just right for coming back to peace and quiet after exploring. The staff were exceptional, kind, and incredibly helpful.

We had a great time here and would happily return. The villa feels tucked away and private, with rice field views, yet it’s close to central Ubud. We had a huge pool, big sofas for lounging, and a lovely master bedroom plus two more bedrooms for our family. The kitchen was fully equipped, so we could make lunch and dinner there. Thanks to the housekeeping team for looking after us.
