Rumah Roda

The breakfast was good, though my husband found a piece of blended plastic bag in his juice. We also had loud neighbors who watched TV until around 2am and then had sex at 4am. The walls were so thin we could hear everything, and even after we knocked and asked them to keep it down, they carried on even louder. We slept well only one night. We had booked a family room with a pool view and small kitchen for four nights over Ogoh Ogoh and Nyepi. When we arrived in the morning, the owner asked us to come back at 1pm because the room wasn’t ready. At 1pm they gave us a different room, saying guests who arrived earlier had been given ours. They smiled and said we hadn’t specified in the reservation that we wanted the room shown in the pictures, and offered to cancel for free. Everything was booked out for ogoh ogoh, so we decided to stay. The first room they offered was in a dark corner, had no view, and was under construction, with dust falling on us. We refused it. The upstairs room they then offered had a beautiful view, but almost no terrace space. It was old, with only cold lighting, and felt like a prison. There was no kitchen, although we’d paid for one, and no seating inside. When it rained, we couldn’t use the terrace and ended up sitting on the bed waiting for the rain to stop. The shower kept dripping onto the floor and couldn’t be stopped, and water wouldn’t drain from the basin. The toilet was the only nice thing in the bathroom. Its door kept opening by itself, and a chain was used to close the room. The terrace bench was so large and heavy that to close the windows, we had to move it off the terrace and then put it back. We got through the stay, though.

We went on a motorbike road trip and they kept our big bag for free. Rumah Roda Homestay is a calm, happy family place with a very clean pool that was lovely for relaxing. Breakfast came with fruit and juice, plus a choice of banana pancakes or eggs. The room was perfect, and the family gave us an incredible welcome. It’s right in the center of Ubud, so don’t hesitate to stay here!

The location worked well for us, with Ubud Temple within walking distance. The room was good, but the curtains didn’t close properly. They have duplicate keys, so we’d find a clean bed when we returned. One other thing, there were no glasses or containers for storing water.

There’s still some construction going on, which was the one downside. The architecture is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious and nice, with a tub and a lovely terrace overlooking a beautiful view. Breakfast is included and nice, and the place is great value for money.
