The Happy Mango Tree - Hostel

We booked five nights but left after one, and got back only a small part of what we’d paid. The mattress was basically just springs, and the wooden bars on the windows couldn’t be closed or covered with netting, so mosquitoes got in and bit us all night. The light switches, walls, and room corners also looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in ages. This was the worst hostel I’ve stayed at, though it was the cheapest, so I’m not sure what I expected. If price and location are all you care about, it might suit you. For a decent night’s sleep, there are places that cost a bit more and are a lot better.

There were lots of mosquitoes, bugs, and cockroaches around, which you might expect with a rice field next door. We had a double room. The hostel itself looks really nice, with plenty of colour, pretty decorations, and Balinese-style doors and beds. It’s a nice place if you’re okay with the insects.

I liked the relaxed vibe, the good location, and how budget-friendly it was. The staff were lovely and happy to help, there were lots of shared spaces, and the rooms weren’t crowded, with decent bedding and very nice balconies to hang out on. I’d suggest better wifi and a kitchenette with basics like a sink, kettle, stovetop, pots, pans, cutlery, and dishes.

It’s the cheapest spot in town, and you can tell from the lumpy beds and room quality. I’m a backpacker and chose it for the price. There’s a decent area to hang out, with a bar and restaurant, and it’s nice to be away from the busy main stretch of Monkey Forest Rd.
