The biggest problem for me was the bathroom. The photos in the one-star review are accurate. I wouldn’t sit on the toilet seat and didn’t want to shower there. It needs a deep clean or renovation, though I think proper cleaning alone might be enough. I deliberately used toilets at warungs instead, which says a lot. I liked staying a bit out from the centre, and the dorm room itself was nice with a comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and spoke English. Breakfast was good, especially the pancakes, and the restaurant was convenient and fine. There are lockers, but no keys, which I wish they had. There’s no free water for everyone, either, though some people seemed to get it and I didn’t :D

They talked us into buying a return ticket from Gili to Sanur, but the day before departure we found out it only went back to Padangbai, with a car ride to Sanur afterward. The Padangbai to Gili ticket they sold us was with the worst company imaginable, with terrible organization and service. Stay away from their services. They’re liars.

It’s the cheapest hostel in Ubud, with breakfast included and a restaurant where prices are reasonable. The staff are polite and smiley, and you can rent a motorbike there. Beds are soft, but the bathroom is very dirty.

I’m visiting from Laos and spent four nights at Uma Kutuh Bangalow. It’s a lovely, family-run hostel with a welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and affordable prices, plus breakfast is included. It’s a great spot to get away from Ubud’s noisy streets. I’d definitely recommend it.
